Where to find Melbourne’s best coffee
You’ll quickly learn our city is serious about its coffee. Here’s where to find a cup of gold – or five – during your stay at Docklands Private Collection Of Apartments.
Seven Seeds
You’ll almost always find this one topping the list. As well as serving up a heavenly brew inside the converted warehouse, this spot is a micro roaster, cafe, shop and event space. The innovative team introduces new beans seasonally, and hosts regular coffee cupping and training programs. Best to settle in and try the gourmet delights, too. Strawberry crumpets, pork neck roti and espresso-infused French toast are among the culinary highlights. Drop in at 114 Berkeley St, Carlton.
Brother Baba Budan
Speaking of Seven Seeds, make sure you visit their little sister and first CBD offering. Mainly set up for takeaways, Brother Baba Budan is small in size but the brew sure packs a big punch. There’s a selection of cakes and pastries if you’re peckish. Fun fact: the spot was named after a Sufi who, according to legend, smuggled seven seeds of coffee out of the Middle East in the 17th century to introduce to India. Find it at 359 Little Bourke St, Melbourne. Not far from Docklands Private Collection of Apartments.
Higher Ground
Here’s where you’ll get not only a sensational cup of coffee, but also a breathtaking backdrop. We won’t give away too much, but think 15-foot ceilings, streams of natural light and a long stainless steel bar. They use Square One Coffee Roasters and specialise in both espresso and filter roasts. Ask your waiter to pair your brew of choice with something delicious. Executive chef Nate Wilkins has carefully curated the menu with imaginative creations made from local produce. It’s at 650 Little Bourke St, Melbourne.
Proud Mary
You’ll usually spy three or more baristas in a steady workflow behind the brew bar here. Choose between the house blends and single origins, and opt for your pick of cold drip, V60, AeroPress and espresso. It’s a good place to nestle in if you’re hungry, too. As well as the adored avo on toast, ex-Attica chef Vicky Symington serves up Persian cauliflower salad, potato gnocchi and lamb ragout, and smoked salmon soba noodle broth. Visit at 172 Oxford St, Collingwood.
Padre Coffee, Queen Victoria Market
You’ll likely taste a cup or two of Padre Coffee during your stay. Locally roasted in Brunswick, the beans are high on the favourites lists of baristas across the city. Two shipping containers have been transformed into a quaint coffee nook in the popular Queen Vic Market, with the Padre team serving up house blends and a rotating selection of single origins from around the globe. With your warm cuppa in hand, you can either take a seat on the deck or wander the stalls down the happy-hued String Bean Alley. You’ll find it at String Bean Alley, Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne.
